Welcome to Rochester University’s semiannual Capstone Conference (formerly Academic Symposium), where we join together to celebrate our vibrant academic community and present the academic achievements and capstone projects of dozens of Rochester University students.
As is always the case, this semester’s program boasts a diversity of subject matter and a display of critical thinking as reflected in our students’ printed and electronic posters, scholarly papers, executive simulations, public relations campaigns for real-world clients, and many others.

Research Findings for Oakland County Regarding Justice-Impacted Individuals and Employment
One of Oakland County’s eight (8) strategic goals is public safety and fairness in the criminal justice system. Capstone students studied the importance of this goal for individuals who have been impacted by the justice system and were asked to research and consider opportunities for Oakland County to increase its effectiveness in this strategic goal. With a focus on employment, each group identified a topic to research and developed a report to be presented to Oakland County.

Young Fans and Sport
There is a growing concern that today’s youth are not participating in sports at the levels that occurred with previous generations. Data shows that if children are not actively participating in sport, they are less likely to become sports spectators later in life. Capstone students were assigned to a research and analytics team to analyze this trend and explore potential solutions that might be enacted to attract young fans to a specific sport organization as TV viewers and game attendees.
